Well, it’s November, the temperature is dropping.  Leaves have dropped, and is dropping.  Nights are getting longer as we race toward the first day of winter.  Stores are even starting to put up their Christmas decorations and merchandise on display already!  That means, it is almost time for our Annual Observance of National Thanksgiving Day!

While, everyday is a day of Thanksgiving!  Our Annual observance of Thanksgiving Day is a special reminder to us of the manifold blessings of God.  Even those blessings, we are tempted to take for granted.

One of the most explicit Bible Verses relating to the matter of thanksgiving is 1 Thessalonians 5:18.  This verse reads:  “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”  This verse commands us as believers to give thanks to the Lord, not FOR every thing, but IN every thing!  There is a world of difference between the two!  Certainly, we ought to be thankful, not just because we celebrate the annual day, but because we have so much to be thankful for, daily!

However, I have discovered that thankfulness can be a very fickle thing.  Often, our public testimonies and prayers, imply that we focus on things that are physical in nature, like our health, homes, families, financial stability, etc.  But these things can breakup, split up, and run dry.  What do we do then?

I would like to suggest, that in addition to being thankful for our physical blessings, that we learn to add to them.   To our spiritual blessings.

Let’s be thankful:

I.  OUR SAVIOR.

    A.  His Abiding Presence.  Regardless of where

the path of life leads, we will never walk

          alone (Matthew 28:20; Isaiah 41:10)!

    B.  His Assisting Presence.  Whenever we are in

need, He literally runs to our aid

          (John 14:6)!

    C.  His Anchoring Presence.  One of our

greatest source of thanksgiving is in the

truth that He never changes!  From before

creation on into eternity, He remains the

          great ‘I AM”!

II. OUR SALVATION.

A.     The Price of It.  We should thank God that

salvation is given without a cost, it is purely

      the operation of grace (Isaiah 55:1;

      Revelation 22:17)!

B.     The Pain of It.  We can be thankful every

day, that even though He knew what we

were and what we would be like after He

saved us that He still went to the cross and

      died for our sins!

C.     The Purpose of It.  We can be thankful that

we which were so lost and wicked have

now been cleansed, and become new

creators and set apart for  God’s glory

through the blood of Jesus (2 Corinthians

      5:17 ; 1 Timothy 1:12-15)!

Let’s be thankful and praise Him for our health, homes, families and financial stability.  Let’s not take them for granted.  But, let us also be thankful for our Savior and salvation, which cannot change, or be taken away.

Dr. Lloyd L. Watkins, Sr., Pastor

GENERAL FUNDS DAY

AND OFFICERS INSTALLATION SERVICE

Our Annual General Funds Day and Officers Installation Service was held on Sunday, September 26, 2004 .  Worship participants were: Sis. Deborah  Bullock, Minister Linda Henry, Sis. Phyllis Smith, Sis. Gloria Anderson,  Bro. Hervey Graham, Bro. Wilmon Rogers and Bro. Adrian Jordan.

For several years, Rev. Lawrence Turner, Sr., and the Holland Chapel AMEZ Church family have come and graced us with their presence, the Word, and their melodious voices.  This year, Rev. Turner was unable to deliver one of dynamic, soul stirring messages to our officers, family and friends.  However, being a good shepherd and a true man of God, he sent his choir and congregation to fulfill his commitment.  Our own Dr. Lloyd L. Watkins, Sr. filled in and gave a wonderful message from Romans 12.

The Stewards, Stewardesses, Trustees, Local Preachers, Class Leaders, and Board Presidents were administered the oath of office by Pastor Watkins.

We give thanks to God and Holland Chapel AMEZ Church for making our General Funds Day and Officers Installation Service a success

The Praise Dancers have expressed an interest in having uniforms.  However, as we ALL know, deciding upon a uniform involves more than just selecting.  Finances play a much greater role in the process; and this is where you come in.  We are soliciting your help in t his endeavour.  You may sponsor a praise dancer or give a donation towards the total cost of the uniforms.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Masharell Smith 957-0477.

Ten Things God Won’t Ask On That Day

  1. God won’t ask what kind of car you drove, He’ll ask how many people you helped who didn’t have transportation.

  1. God won’t ask the square footage of your house, He’ll ask how many people you welcomed into your home.

  1. God won’t ask about the clothes you had in your closet, He’ll ask how many you helped to clothe.

  1. God won’t ask what your highest salary was, He’ll ask if you compromised your character to obtain it.

  1. God won’t ask what your job title was, He’ll ask if you performed your job to the best of your ability.

  1. God won’t ask how many friends you had, He’ll ask how many people to whom you were a friend.

  1. God won’t ask in what neighborhood you lived, He’ll ask how you treated your neighbors.

  1. God won’t ask about the color of your skin, He’ll ask about the content of your character.

  1. God’ won’t ask why it took you so long to seek Salvation, He’ll be so proud you chose to follow in his footsteps and chose his way of life that He will take you to your mansion in heaven, and not to the gates of Hell.

  1. God won’t have to ask how many people you forwarded this to, He already know whether or not you are ashamed to share this information with your friends.

The next time you feel like GOD can’t use you, just remember. . .

HEAVEN’S GROCERY STORE

For use in printed publications, Right-Click on the filename below to download and choose "Save Target As" or "Save Link As"

As I was waking down life’s highway many years ago, I came upon a sign that read Heavens Grocery Store.

When I got a little closer the doors swung open wide, and when I came to myself I was standing inside.

I saw a host of angels.  They were standing everywhere, one handed me a basket and said “My child shop with care.”

Everything a human needed was in that grocery store, and what you could not carry you could come back for more.

First I got some Patience.  Love was in that same row.  Further down was Understanding, you need that everywhere you go.

I got a box or two of Wisdom and Faith a bag or two.  And Charity of course I would need some of that too.

I couldn’t miss the Holy Ghost, it was all over the place, and then some Strength and Courage to help me run this race.

My basket was getting full, but I remembered I needed Grace, and then I chose Salvation for Salvation was for free. I tried to get enough of that to doe for you and me.

Then I started to the counter to pay my grocery bill, for I thought I had everything to do the Master’s will.

As I went up the aisle I saw Prayer and put that in, for I knew when I stepped outside, I would run into sin.

Peace and Joy were plentiful, the last things on the shelf.  Song and Praise were hanging near so I just helped myself.

Then I said to the angel “Now how much do I owe?”  “My child” he said, “God paid your bill a long long time ago.”

What if we replace competition with cooperation?

Right-Click on the filename below to download this image and choose "Save Target As" or "Save Link As"

Fishermen say you never need a top for a crab basket.  If one crab starts to climb up the sides of the basket, the other crabs will reach up and pull it back down.  There are people who act a lot like crabs.

In a competitive world it is easier to weep with those who weep than it is to rejoice with those who rejoice.  We can sympathize with failure better than we can congratulate success.  We are jealous of those who rise too high and succeed too quickly.  We want to pull them back in the bucket where they belong.

What if we replaced the spirit of competition with the spirit of cooperation?  What if people helped each other climb as high as they can without yielding to the temptation to cut them down?  What if service became our motto instead of selfishness?  What kind of world would we have?

So the next time you see someone doing well, cheer them on instead of holding them back.  After all, people were not made to live like crabs.
