I ASKED GOD

I asked God to take away my habit.

God said, No.

It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.

God said, No.

His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.

God said, No.

Patience is a byproduct of tribulations; it isn’t granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.

God said, No.

I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.

God said, No.

Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.

God said, No.

You must grow on your own!, but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.

God said, No.

I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.

I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as HE loves me.

God said…Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

Dr. Lloyd L. Watkins, Sr., Pastor

Knock, Knock

A new pastor was visiting in the homes of his parishioners.  At one house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door.  Therefore, he took out a card and wrote “Revelation 3:20 on the back of it and stuck it in the door.

When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned.  Added to it was this cryptic message, “Genesis 3:10 .”  Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of laughter.

Revelation 3:20 begins “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.”  Genesis 3:10 reads “I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid for I was naked.”

Remember when the funniest jokes were the clean ones?  They still are!

“A cheerful heart is good medicine”

The Praise Dancers have expressed an interest in having uniforms.  However, as we ALL know, deciding upon a uniform involves more than just selecting.  Finances play a much greater role in the process; and this is where you come in.  We are soliciting your help in t his endeavour.  You may sponsor a praise dancer or give a donation towards the total cost of the uniforms.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Masharell Smith 957-0477.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

YOUTH & YOUNG CONFERENCE 2004

What I Learned at the Conference

We discussed John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that who so ever believes in him will not perish, but shall have eternal life’.  This explains to us how much God loved us and how He showed his love to us.  How can we show our love to God?

We should:       -Read the Bible

-Establish a relationship with God

  and pray

-Keep God’s commandments

-Attend church

As we read the Bible more, we learn how to be more Christian like in our behavior and not allow Satan to tell us what to do.  Our lessons helped us to understand that we are one body in Christ, the foundation of the church.  Being in the body of Christ identifies you as a believer.  Being a part of the church provides us with:

                        -Spiritual and emotional support

-Encourages your walk with the Lord

Conference Highlights cont’d

-A spiritual family

                        -Spiritual leadership

                        -Teaches us about God’s word

Empowerment Session

Rev. Roderick Glover “The Motivator”

Relationships – skit on pre-marital sex and consequences; pregnancy.  The choices we make can determine our destination.  The skit was presented with two endings:  (1) The teenage couple engaged in pre-marital sex and the young lady did become pregnant.  (2)  The couple abstained from sex and made a pact not to engage in pre-marital sex.  They continued to be friend as they attended college and launched their careers.

Lessons learned:

-Look out for traps of the devil when you

  set your goals.

-Parents should set the right examples for

  their children.

            -Honor God with your body.

Evening Worship – 7:30 p.m.

Speaker:  Mrs. Roslyn Brock, NAACP Vice Chair

Of National Board of Directors

Scripture:  John 7:37

Subject:  Do You Need A Drink?

History Statement – February 1, 1960 , four students from North Carolina A&T State University demonstrated with a sit-in at the lunch counter at the Woolworth Store.  They were thirsty for justice.  There is an educational thirst in the United States with re-segregation issues.  There is spiritual thirst in the church if we are not drinking from the living waters through Christ.  We need to drink from the living water when the pressures of life cause us to be thirsty.  Only the living water we receive through Jesus can sustain us in any situation we are presented with in live.
